mymizu Open Source Community Hackathon #2
with Code Chrysalis
Join us on Saturday March 11th for a mymizu Community Hackathon for good!
For the past 4 years, mymizu has been harnessing the power of technology and community to tackle single-use plastic waste and encourage people to think and act on the environment in their everyday lives.
We’ve helped people to track the reduction of more than 600,000+ plastic bottles, crowdsourced more than 200,000+ public refill spots, and also onboarded nearly 2300 “mymizu Refill Partners” (participating shops and businesses) in Japan and around the world. We have held challenges for companies and cities to help their employees and citizens to incorporate a more sustainable lifestyle, and have even reached #1 on the Apple App store!
Then, last summer, 20 volunteers and 3 organizations came together to build a new web platform for mymizu so that anyone can search our global refill spot network, as well as develop new and interactive tools. Thanks to these efforts, we were able to release the mymizu web MVP into the world. This was a hugely proud moment for our community! (Read more about that event here!)
And so we are excited to announce that our next hackathon will be on 11th March 2023! We are super excited to be co-hosting it with our friends at Code Chrysalis again, and excited to welcome new and old friends to help improve mymizu web even further. Now that we have a foundation to work with, there is a lot more freedom to build fun and creative things.
For example
Sorting and filtering the spots on the map
Be able to share rich previews of refill spots on social media
Help a mymizu user find their nearest spots
Track the weather and give an alert if there is possibility of a heatstroke
Count the number of spots in a specific region
Squash some sneaky bugs
… and anything else you can think of, we are all ears
It will be a great way to meet other passionate members of the Tokyo tech community, build some cool features that can literally save the world, and also meet up with the mymizu team (we are fun, we promise).
Each line of code you write has the potential drastically reduce plastic in Japan!
